Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) therapy is a procedure in which blood is exposed to various wavelengths of light as a form of therapy. UBI is known to support red blood cell oxygenation and a healthy immune system. The UVLRx StationTM uniquely exposes the blood to ultraviolet (UV) light without removing blood from the patient. It’s clean, simple, safe, and more efficient than any other UBI therapy system available today. There are many integrative clinics internationally that use this therapy.
For over 80 years, ultraviolet light blood irradiation (UBI) has been used worldwide to treat various diseases. In the 1930’s, Knott’s Hemo-Irradiator was FDA approved and in clinical use in the United States and abroad. A second FDA approved UBI device has been proven safe and effective for over 20 years for a wide variety of disorders, including some forms of cancer. Both of these devices use the transfusion method, which involve removing donor blood, irradiating it with ultraviolet light, then transfusing it back into the patient.
However, we feel we have been led to discover a better way, with better results, and more tolerated by most patients, to do this therapy:
UVLRx Station uniquely delivers UV light directly to the blood intravenously via a standard catheter. This method eliminates many of the concerns surrounding the “transfusion method” and treats 100% of patient blood each treatment.
Photochemistry, generally, is the study of chemical reactions that arise when light is absorbed by organisms including, of course, humans. When visible light hits a certain kind of molecule with photoreceptor or light-absorbing characteristics (a chromophore), electrons within the molecule are activated, causing some wavelengths to be absorbed and others reflected.
How UVLRx Works
The UVLrx Treatment System administers defined wavelengths to the patient, to address the particular condition(s) being treated. Each wavelength delivered by the UVLrx Treatment System targets specific cells to drive very specific biological pathways:
•Red (630 nm) – Upregulates cell bioenergetics helping to bolster immune response and cell repair
•UVA (365 nm) – Eradicates foreign pathogens (i.e. bacteria, virus, fungi)
•Green (535 nm) – Improves hemodynamics
The UVLrx Treatment System accomplishes all this by bringing light to the patient’s body in a totally new and innovative manner. Housed within our UVLrx Station is an optic engine which is delivered through the Patient Cable (1) and which feeds an optical filament (4) into a 20-gauge intravascular catheter (5) to provide direct treatment of the blood. During the treatment, normal saline solution flows through the DLA via the saline entry connector (6) preventing light attenuation within the catheter.
In a typical UVLRx treatment three separate wavelengths are delivered to the patient. Each wavelength activates a specific biochemical pathway, with their concurrent powerful and therapeutic effect being the genius of the UVLrx.
