How you can reduce your chances of getting cancer

Story by Max Efrein

You’ve probably heard the phrase “everything causes cancer.”

Well, that’s simply not true.

There are, however, quite a few things to look out for.

“We live in a toxic environment,” said Robert Zieve, medical director and coordinator of Partners in Integrative Cancer Therapies in Prescott. “We’re all living in an environment full of toxins that can permit latent genetic mutations to manifest into a particular type of cancer.”

How Foods Support Cancer Recovery

by Donald Yance, c.n., m.h., r.h. (ahg)

“You are what you eat.”

This simple adage has been around since time immemorial. It is balanced by the complementary slogan “you are what you don’t excrete” (but that’s a different story). Perhaps more appropriately, “you are what you absorb.” Overcoming illness and maintaining health through dietary therapy is central to holistic philosophy and practice.

People in the United States spend more per capita on junk food and fast food than any other country, are fatter than in any other country, and spend more in diet products and diet foods than any other country. The most widely advertised foods tend to be high in calories and low in nutrients, with little advertising for healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans.

Milk Protein is a Carcinogen Says China Study Doctor

T. Colin Campbell, MD on Milk, Protein and Plant Based Diet. Interview with China Study Author on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Radio Talk Show.

Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) September 21, 2012

"Casein (the main protein in milk curds) is the most relevant chemical carcinogen ever identified…when consumed in excess of protein needs." That was the conclusion of China Study author and nutrition researcher T. Colin Campbell, MD, in a recent Wall Street Journal article (September 17, 2012).

The article recalled many statements made earlier by Dr. Campbell in an interview on the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water radio talk show, where he discussed his research, the China Study (BenBella Books, 2005) and the benefits of a plant based vegan based diet. Podcasts may be heard on, Sharon Kleyne Apple iTunes and VoiceAmerica.

Breast Cancer Prevention, Naturally

bbed8755-3dd5-4f44-b5b2-76be943ab281.jpgAs I am sure you are well aware, October is breast cancer awareness month. You can't hardly miss it--there is pink everywhere! Awareness is always the first step in solving any issue and breast cancer is certainly a challenging issue to solve.

Most of the focus is around prevention, which is the area of health that naturopathic doctors are best at. There is so much more that can be done to actually prevent breast cancer--along with an annual mammogram (which, unfortunately, has not shown to decrease the mortality rate from breast cancer at all).

Breast self exams--This is by far the most common way of finding issues. Unfortunately, most women do not do them regularly out of fear of finding an issue. If you can remind yourself that the point behind finding an issue early is so you can quickly and easily gain access to much-needed tools to solve it, then the fear will fade. When you ask most women what "early detection" means, they will say, "Finding a lump, then having the lump or breast removed, then starting chemotherapy and radiation treatments." If this is the answer, no wonder women are scared to touch their breasts! If a woman can become familiar with how their breast tissue feels each month, then she will be more aware of subtle changes when they occur. Often, these changes may be resolved simply with gentle massage with castor oil, certain lymph-moving herbs, visualization, etc.
