In Chinese Medicine, spring is liver time. The liver is our major organ of detoxification, and if it is not functioning right, we can accumulate toxins and are at risk for developing a chronic condition. According to this system, the liver is also associated with the element wood, with sourness, and the emotion of anger.
Living in today's toxic world, most of us need to have some form of detoxification process in our lives that gives permission to our bodies to eliminate the buildup of toxins in our tissues and cells. It is this buildup that often leads to the development of a chronic disease like a cancer. For example, there are chemicals in plastics called xenoestrogens. These are chemicals that mimic the natural estrogens in our bodies (and by the way, men, we are just as vulnerable to these as women are). Xenoestrogens are, by definition, any of the byproducts of industrial or chemical processing that have estrogen-like effects. The buildup of these types of toxins can lead to hormonal cancers.
Why take antioxidants and how can they prevent or help treat your chronic condition?
Many people ask us about antioxidants, and whether they need to take these type of supplements, like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Vitamin A, or selenium. Sometimes they have received misinformed or misguided advice from their medical doctors, who may advise them that these supplements are not necessary, or can even cause health problems. Or they may say, " They can't do any harm, so take them." This type of advice can be a sign that your doctor is not very informed about what causes most chronic conditions today.

In the first evidence of a natural intervention triggering stem cell-based regeneration of an organ or system, a study shows that cycles of prolonged fasting not only protect against immune system damage -- a major side effect of chemotherapy -- but also induce immune system regeneration, shifting stem cells from a dormant state to a state of self-renewal.
